about

State Champs "Clear Eyes (EP), Full Hearts (EP), Can't Lose (Album)" The Trilogy
Johnny Redd and Nick Arcade are indivuals. A team is defined as a group of individuals (usually with complimentary skills) linked together for a common purpose. State Champs is a team in every sense. Their "2 ILL Cats In A Ford Truck" Mixtape served as a warmup of sorts this trilogy of projects will serve as a more formal introduction of the duo.

What does "Clear Eyes" stand for? The "Clear Eyes" (Ep) will serve as a platform for the 'Champs' to clear the air on a few topics. There's a joint for those who have been 'Jockin' Their Style'....for those who see them as just a local act 'Mapquest'. An anthem for the procrastinators afraid to chase their dreams 'Push It Yourself'. A tribute to a lost friend 'Missin' You' and a joint for the ladies 'Nobody' which serves as a bridge sonically to the next project "Full Hearts."

The second project in the series is the "Full Hearts" EP. Full Heart(ed) is defined as full of courage or confidence. The 'Champs' don't lack either and this project will serve as their platform to show their courage and confidence musically. With joints like a tribute to Randy Savage & Curt Hennig (Mr. Perfect Randy Savage) and "Up All Night" 'Full Hearts' serves as a more than solid follow up to 'Clear Eyes' and a precursor to their debut album "Can't Lose."

"Can't Lose" is the culmination of it all. The equivalent of what athletes refer to as being in "The Zone." It is defined as having a higher level of concentration and being totally engrossed in an endeavor to the point where time almost stands still and outside distractions almost disappear.

State Champs De Kalb, Illinois

"At times, State Champs can be like listening to Chuck Klosterman with beats, the quality of which needs to be stressed."
"this is everything that Midwest hip-hop is struggling to achieve. The beats are tight without sacrificing excellent lyrics, which is a best of both worlds situation. The lyrics had me stuck at an appreciation of their referencesz'
